Textiles industry is one of the most important industries after oil sector.

According to WTO’s International Trade Statistics, the value of Iran’s textile exports in 1990 was $510 million. This amount increased to $766 million in 2000 and $766 in 2006. Subsequently This value decreased to $676 million in 2007 and $498 million in 2008.
The share of textile exports in Iran’s total value of exports was 2.7% in 2000 and 0.4% in 2008.

Iran, with a population of 70 million, requires 1.4 billion square meters of textiles annually.
