Although Iran is one of the important agricultural products exporters, it is also one of the major agricultural products importers.
According to WTO’s International Trade Statistics, the value of Iran’s imports of agricultural products in 1990 was $3830 million. This value decreased to $ 2943 million in 2000. The value increased to $4270 million in 2006, $5196 million in 2007 and finally $7846 in 2008. Accordingly, the share of agricultural products imports in Iran’s total value of imports was 21.2% in 2000 and 13.7% in 2008.
